When the Royal School was originally constructed, unsustainable latrines were built. No more than a hole in the ground with a small shack standing over it, these bathrooms were meant to be filled once and buried. With 647 children using the facilities several times a day, it is easy to see why they are almost full.
We desperately needed to build a new latrine for the children to use, only this time we would be constructing one that can be emptied once it is full. Although this project is slated to cost about three times more than the original (estimated cost is 10,000 USD), it will ensure the hygienic disposal of waste for years to come.
Thanks to a handful of donors and one big group of generous Mary Kay women, we have already raised the funds necessary to complete this project. Construction has already begun.
